The Director/Writer

Árni Ólafur ÁsgeirssonÁrni Ólafur Ásgeirsson was born in Reykjavik in 1972 and grew up in a suburb. He got interested in film in his late teens after being introduced to the films of the French and Czech New wave and Italian Neo Realism. He began working as a runner on small productions while flirting with home made short films. In 1995 he entered the Directing program of the Polish National Film School in Lodz where he graduated in 2001 with his short film "P.S." which was premiered in the Cinefondation section of the Cannes Film Festival in 2002. During his studies he worked in the summers on different jobs in the Icelandic film industry slowly moving his way to become a First Assistant Director on shorts, commercials and three feature films before directing his debut "Thicker Than Water

After graduating he wrote and directed the Danish short film Anna’s Day which won him the Priz de Presse at the International short film festival in Clermont Ferrand.   He also co-wrote the Icelandic feature "A Man Like Me", directed by his friend Robert Douglas.  Árni currently lives and works in Reykjavik as a screenwriter, director of TV commercials and a teacher in the Drama Department at the Icelandic Arts Academy.
