synopsis
The Cold War is over and Russian subs have been absent from Icelandic waters for years so the Pentagon is planning to close down the NATO listening post for submarines.
The locals are delighted at first but Dagny (26) who work’;s at the local restaurant realizes what this means for the local community. Why did the good old Cold War have to end? But, then again, who says it has ended? After all, how hard can it be to imitate submarine sounds since Hollywood does it all the time.
Navy Officer DOUGLAS KETCHUM, (30), a sonar expert with trained ears is sent to the base to investigate the resent submarine activity.
When Ketchum arrives Dagny’;s grandfather BOLLI (70), an old-school communist, has blocked the gate to the base in his annual protest against the Americans. Hell brakes loose when Ketchum tries to get through and Bolli ram’;s Ketchum’;s navy vehicle with his tractor. Dagny is asked to settle the fight. Ketchum is furious when she arrives. The ensuing argument ignites a romantic spark in both of them.
Ketchum soon realizes that there is something fishy going on regarding the sub sounds in the Icelandic waters. When he finds out that Dagny is behind it all, he needs to make a choice. Should he be loyal to NATO or Dagny. When the Russians get involved Ketchum is saved from his dilemma.
